equipment of new laboratories.

(1) Physics.

The Committee recommend the development of

honours teaching in Physics and of post-graduate

the

teaching in physics Radio-Therapy.

Radio-Therapy. Specialist

courses in industrial physics would however be

premature.

(2) Chemistry.

Honours teaching in Chemistry should be

developed, and a new branch for micro-analysis should

be developed for post-graduate work.

(3) Biology •

Biology teaching should be extended to a

full 4 years course, and a summer school in Marine

Biology, which would attract students from China,

should be held annually at the new Fisheries Institute

in co-operation with various Chinese Institutions.

D. Arts Faculty.

The present position is unsatisfactory, and an

extension of departments in this Faculty is considered

necessary.

The Committee recommend the suspension of the

courses in Commerce now offered, and consider that the

University should develop instead a department for the

teaching of economics, politics and economic history, which,

in combination with history and philosophy (both these

departments requiring an increase in staff), would provide

a course similar to "Modern Greats". Such a course would

be
